You’re probably already familiar with the immune-boosting and anti-viral benefits of vitamin C. But that's just a taste of what this water-soluble vitamin can do…
Vitamin C is also a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent free radical damage to DNA. It has also been shown to help prevent the buildup of plaque in the arteries and brain. It can also help protect the nervous system.
And it is a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.
Of course, vitamin C is not a single, magic-bullet solution. But you would be hard pressed to find a health concern that it has not been shown to benefit. And it should be an important part of your overall nutritional strategy.
Natural vs. Synthetic: Not All Vitamin C is Created Equal
Scientists and health experts have known about these benefits of vitamin C for many decades. In fact, as early as the 1700s it was discovered that lemon juice could prevent sailors from getting scurvy.
As public awareness of the benefits of vitamin C grew, food manufacturers understood that the claim “high in vitamin C” could help increase sales of certain products.
But there was a problem…
The natural, full-spectrum form of vitamin C breaks down and becomes useless when exposed to heat. So food scientists began to fortify all manner of products with a synthetic version, known as ascorbic acid.
So when you drink a glass of heat-pasteurized commercial orange juice in the morning (which we don’t recommend, because it’s all sugar), you aren’t really consuming vitamin C.
You are consuming a product "fortified" with a synthetic impostor to replace the real thing that was destroyed during processing.
Ascorbic acid doesn’t grow on trees. Eighty percent of the world’s supply is produced in laboratories or manufacturing plants in China from corn syrup – which is almost certainly GMO.
If you were to compare vitamin C to an egg, ascorbic acid would be the shell – with nothing inside. Unfortunately, the FDA allows this synthetic imitation of the real thing to be labeled as “vitamin C.”
And the problem is not just that this synthetic ingredient does not confer the same benefits as natural, full-spectrum vitamin C… it can actually be harmful to your health!
- One study, published in Science, stated that, “Synthetic vitamin C may contribute to the formation of genotoxins that can lead to cancer.”
- A presentation before the American Heart Association, showed that consuming 500mg of synthetic vitamin C per day could lead to thickening of the arteries.
- A study of athletes, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showed that 1,000mg daily led to reduced endurance and measurable interference with antioxidant enzymes.
Ascorbic acid has also been shown to be anti-bacterial. In fact, some food manufacturers add it to their products for this reason – as a preservative.
Unfortunately, the compound doesn’t differentiate between good and bad bacteria and can destroy the friendly health promoting bugs in your gut.
It is clear that synthetic vitamin C behaves in the body a lot like a pharmaceutical drug. It might have certain specific benefits, but these are offset by risks. And it is certainly no match for the real thing.
So, what is the best way to get the tremendous health-promoting benefits of vitamin C?
Mother Nature’s Superior Source of Vitamin C
There are numerous fruits, vegetables and berries that contain a reasonable amount of vitamin C...
But there is one food, native to the lush river-side climates of the Peruvian rainforest, that contains a greater density of this super-vitamin than any other food on the planet – the Camu Camu Berry.
If you ask most people what food comes to mind when you think of vitamin C... they would say, "An orange."
And while an average orange does contain about 1,000 ppm of vitamin C. The typical camu berry has a concentration of about 50,000 ppm!
On a gram-for-gram basis, camu berry provides about 50 times more vitamin C than an orange… and 200 times more than banana!
Camu berries are also a rich source of potassium, calcium, protein, beta carotene, amino acids and an assortment of phytonutrients.
So, how can you enjoy the benefits of this super-fruit without booking a flight to Peru?
Paleovalley Essential C Complex has a unique combination ingredients - including acerola cherry, camu camu, and amla berry - which contain high concentrations of Vitamin C in its most potent, natural form.
Most people don’t realize that most Vitamin C supplements are synthetic!
And research has shown again and again that synthetic vitamins are not a good replacement for vitamins you can get from whole foods.
Which is what makes Paleovalley Essential C Complex so powerful.
When it comes to strengthening your vital immune system, don't take chances with synthetic, highly-processed supplements.
