Dear , In order to protect your brain as you age, it’s essential to enjoy
an ancestral diet rich in healthy fats. In fact, study up on study shows that diets low in fats and cholesterol - including vegetarian and vegan diets – are associated with cognitive decline… while diets rich in fat have been found to reduce the risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by as much as 44%. While we’ve long known that healthy “Mediterranean” fats like monounsaturated fat (found in olive oil and avocados) and omega-3 fatty acids (found in wild fish) have neuroprotective effects, new research suggests the most neuroprotective fatty food just might be… Cheese! A Daily Dose of Cheese... to Fight Alzheimer’s Disease?Yes, you read that right. Fromage. Queso. Formaggio! New research published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease looked at the role of diet in the development of dementia. In the study, the researchers analyzed data from 1,787 adults between the ages of 46 and 77. All of the participants completed a Fluid Intelligence Test (FIT) - an
assessment of learning and memory skills. Follow-up tests were then administered, enabling researchers to track dietary changes and participants related cognitive abilities over a ten-year period. During the period participants also answered questions about their diet providing information on their daily intake of 49 different whole foods including fruits,
vegetables, fish, meat, dairy and alcoholic beverages. At the end of the study, the researchers concluded: “Daily cheese intake strongly predicted better FIT scores over time.” In fact, of all the foods listed, cheese offered more protection against age-related cognitive decline than any other food! Researchers hypothesize this effect is related, in part, to compounds called lactopeptides, which
were found to improve cognition in older adults in another study. The researchers also looked at red wine and found greater red wine consumption was related to better FIT scores, with consistent alcohol consumption daily having the potential to “further improve score performance”. Researchers note red wine’s high polyphenol content, which offers anti-inflammatory benefits. They also cite its ability to raise high density lipoprotein (HDL) and decrease blood pressure as mechanisms for benefitting brain health. Speaking of wine, do you
know... QUIZ: Which Red Wine Boost Metabolism? Although hard alcohol like vodka, whisky, gin and tequila
can increase belly fat… Prominent scientists from Greece have found that one of the following red wines actually increases fat-burning when you drink it a certain way.
But which one? Is it…
